چکیده

Deep dentinal lesion progress is often presented as the point of no return for the specific pulp involved. In these lesions, however large variations and changes within the lesion environment may be detected. As the disease process is better studied and understood, more conservative treatments have come 5 up in the treatment of deep carious lesions. One such is a step-wise excavation procedure, which is minimally invasive and reduces the risk of pulp exposure.

One-step partial or complete caries removal and bonding with antibacterial or traditional self-etch adhesives: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND Current concepts in conservative dentistry advocate minimally invasive dentistry and pulp vitality preservation. Moreover, complete removal of carious dentin in deep carious lesions often leads to pulp exposure and root canal treatment, despite the absence of irreversible pulp inflammation. For years, partial caries removal has been performed on primary teeth, but little evidence sup...

Dentin and pulp reactions to caries and operative treatment: biological variables affecting treatment outcome

An important issue prior to restorative or endodontic treatment of carious teeth is the assessment of the different conditions of each individual case. This relates to the static, anatomical considerations of the location of the caries lesion, as well as the dynamic activity and extent of the carious process. Moreover, the restorative treatment may be carried out for prosthetic or cosmetic purp...

Effectiveness and efficiency of chemomechanical carious dentin removal.

The aims of this in vitro study were both to determine the time necessary for removal of carious dentin (efficiency) and the Knoop Hardness Number (KHN) of the remaining dentin (effectiveness), using a chemomechanical method (Carisolv) or hand excavation. Thirty human molars were bisected through occlusal carious lesions into two equal halves. Each half was randomly excavated by hand in circula...

Complete or ultraconservative removal of decayed tissue in unfilled teeth.

BACKGROUND The treatment of deep dental decay has traditionally involved removal of all the soft demineralised dentine before a filling is placed. However this has been challenged in three groups of studies which involve sealing soft caries into the tooth. The three main groups either remove no caries and seal the decay into the tooth, remove minimal (ultraconservative) caries at the entrance t...

Ultraconservative resin restorations.

Ultraconservative dentistry represents a great step forward for the dentist, the profession, and especially the patient. It involves the early detection and complete elimination of all accessible and non-accessible carious material from the tooth. Untreated caries can be extremely and rapidly destructive. The earliest interception of decay maintains total dental health and increases the likelih...
